Nickel Strips

Nickel 200 is commercially pure (99.6%) wrought nickel. It has good mechanical properties and excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. Other useful features of the alloy are its magnetic and magnetostrictive properties, high thermal and electrical conductivities, low gas content and low vapor pressure.  The corrosion resistance of Nickel 200 makes it particularly useful for maintaining product purity in the handling of foods, synthetic fibers, and caustic alkalies; and also in structural applications where resistance to corrosion is a prime consideration. Other applications include chemical shipping drums, electrical and electronic parts, and aerospace and missile components.

Nickel 201 is the low-carbon version of Nickel 200. Typical applications are caustic evaporators, combustion boats, platter bars and electronic components. Nickel 201, because of its low base hardness and lower work-hardening rate, is particularly suited for spinning and cold forming. It is preferred to Nickel 200 for applications involving exposure to temperatures above 600°F (315°C).

Alloy 600 is a standard engineering material for applications which require resistance to corrosion and heat. The alloy also has excellent mechanical properties and presents the desirable combination of high strength and good workability. The high nickel content gives the alloy resistance to corrosion by many organic and inorganic compounds and also makes it virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. The alloy is not precipitation hardenable; it is hardened and strengthened only by cold work.

The versatility of INCONEL alloy 600 has led to its use in a variety of applications involving temperatures from cryogenic to above 2000°F (1095°C).

In the chemical industry, typical applications include heaters, stills, bubble towers and condensers for processing of fatty acids; evaporator tubes, tube sheets and flaking trays for the manufacture of sodium sulfide; and equipment for handling abietic acid in the manufacture of paper pulp.

In the heat-treating industry, it is used for retorts, muffles, roller hearths and other furnace components and for heat-treating baskets and trays.

In the aeronautical field, it is used for: lockwire, exhaust liners and turbine seals. In the electronic field, it is used for: cathode-ray tube spiders, thyratron grids, tube support members and springs.

The alloy is a standard material of construction for nuclear reactors. It has excellent resistance to corrosion by high-purity water and no indication of chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking in reactor water systems has been detected.

Alloy 625 A nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy, with an addition of niobium that acts with the Molybdenum to stiffen the alloy’s matrix which provides high strength without a strengthening heat Treatment. The alloy resists a wide range of severely corrosive environments and is especially resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion. Used in chemical processing, aerospace and marine engineering, pollution- Control equipment and nuclear reactors.

Alloy 718 is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel chromium material used at -423° to 1300°F. The age-hardenable alloy can be readily fabricated, even into complex parts. Its welding characteristics, especially its resistance to post-weld cracking, are outstanding. The ease and economy with which INCONEL alloy 718 can be fabricated, combined with good tensile, fatigue, creep, and rupture strength, have resulted in its use in a wide range of applications. Examples of these are components for liquid fueled rockets, rings, casings and various formed sheet metal parts for aircraft and land-based gas turbine engines, and cryogenic tankage. It is also used for fasteners and instrumentation parts.

HASTELLOY® C-276 alloy is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium wrought alloy that is generally considered a versatile corrosion-resistance alloy. C-276 alloy is an improved wrought version of alloy C in that it usually doesn’t need to be solution heat-treated after welding and has vastly improved fabricability. This alloy resists the formation of grain-boundary precipitaties in the weld heat-affected zone, thus making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to localized corrosion and to both oxidizing and reducing media.

HASTELLOY C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemical process environments, including strong oxidizers such as ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated media (organic and inorganic), chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, and seawater and brine solutions. It is used in flue gas desulfurization systems because of its excellent resistance to sulfur compounds and chloride ions encountered in most scrubbers. C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting and to stress-corrosion cracking. It is also one of the few materials that withstands the corrosive effects of wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.

Hastelloy X is a nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum super-alloy with outstanding high temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and fabricability. Alloy X’s oxidation resistance is excellent up to 2200° F. This nickel steel alloy has also been found to be exceptionally resistant to stress-corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. Matrix stiffening provided by the molybdenum content, results in high strength in a solid-solution alloy having good fabrication characteristics. Although this nickel alloy is primarily noted for heat and oxidation resistance, it also has good resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking, carburization and excellent resistance to reducing or carburizing atmospheres. Hastelloy X resists carburization and nitriding, two common conditions that often lead to early failure in high temperature alloys.

Alloy X is one of the most widely used nickel base superalloys for gas turbine engine combustion zone components such as transition ducts, combustor cans, spray bars and flame holders as well as in afterburners, tailpipes and cabin heaters. It is recommended for use in industrial furnace applications because it has unusual resistance to oxidizing, reducing and neutral atmospheres. Hastelloy X is also used in the chemical process industry for retorts, muffles, catalysts support grids, furnace baffles, tubing for pyrolysis operations and flash drier components.

Alloy 400 is MONEL nickel-copper is a solid-solution alloy that can be hardened only by cold working. It has high strength and toughness over a wide temperature range and excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. Alloy 400 is widely used in many fields, especially marine and chemical processing. Typical applications are valves and pumps; pump and propeller shafts; marine fixtures and fasteners; electrical and electronic components; springs; chemical processing equipment; gasoline and fresh water tanks; crude petroleum stills, process vessels and piping; boiler feed-water heaters and other heat exchangers; and deaerating heaters.

NIMONIC alloy 80A is a wrought, age-hardenable nickel-chromium alloy, strengthened by additions of titanium, aluminum and carbon, developed for service at temperatures up to 815°C (1500°F). It is produced by high-frequency melting and casting in air for forms to be extruded. Electroslag refined material is used for forms to be forged.  Vacuum refined versions are also available. NIMONIC alloy 80A is currently used for gas turbine components (blades, rings and discs), bolts, nuclear boiler tube supports, die casting inserts and cores, and for automobile exhaust valves.

NIMONIC alloy 90 (UNS N07090/W. Nr. 2.4632) is a wrought nickel-chromium-cobalt base alloy strengthened by additions of titanium and aluminum. It has been developed as an age-hardenable creep resisting alloy for service at temperatures up to 920°C (1688°F). The alloy is used for turbine blades, discs, forgings, ring sections and hot-working tools.

WASP is a nickel- base alloy with excellent high temperature strength and good resistance to oxidation at a temperature up to 1200 °F. WASP has higher stability and strength ranges than those available for alloy 718. WASP can be heat treated in three-steps: solution treatment, stabilization and age-hardening.
