Carbon Steel Rods & Bars

AISI 1018 commercial quality mild steel, bright drawn or smooth turned, with a good balance of strength, ductility and toughness, excellent weldability, also good formability and machinability.

Typical Applications:

Axles, bolts, connecting rods, motor shafts, hydraulic shafts, pump shafts, pins, machinery parts etc. Also, light duty gears, camshafts, spindles ratchets etc., when carburized.

AISI 1045 is a medium carbon, medium tensile steel, supplied black as rolled, black as forged or normalized and bright drawn or smooth turned, offering good strength, toughness and wear resistance. Will through harden in sections up to 63mm – with a tensile strength of 620 – 850 MPa.

Typical Applications:

Axles, bolts, connecting rods, studs, rams, pins, rolls, spindles, ratchets, crankshafts, torsion bars, sockets, worms, light gears, guide rods etc.

AISI 1070 is a high-carbon water or oil-hardening tool and spring steel of low hardenability. It is used for railroad and street railway rails, heavy machinery parts, shafts, springs and a wide variety of hand and machine tools requiring strength and wear resistance.

AISI 12L14 low carbon leaded free cutting steel, bright drawn or smooth turned with a consistently excellent level of machinability. The lead improves machinability greatly with little effect on the mechanical properties.

Typical Applications:  very heavily machined components or parts subject to low stress levels, low shock loading, limited forming and very limited welding.

AISI 8620 nickel–chrome–moly carburizing steel, generally supplied as rolled to HB 255max. Carburized and heat treated it develops a hard wear resistant case to HRC 60-63 and a tough strong core with a typical tensile strength range of 700-1100 MPa, in small to medium sized sections.

Typical Applications:

Arbors, pinions, bushes, camshafts, king pins, ratchets, gears, splined shafts etc. Or can be used for high tensile applications uncarburized but through hardened and tempered.

Through hardening properties fair with good toughness due to the low carbon and medium alloy content, it is also suitable for Nitriding.
